Nutrition Programs
As part of our projects sponsored by WFP, ASOW has implemented comprehensive nutrition programs aimed at addressing malnutrition in vulnerable populations. To date, we have provided Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (LNS) to 82,910 children and Super Cereal Supplements to 41,454 Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLWs).
These targeted nutritional interventions are designed to combat acute malnutrition and enhance the overall well-being of vulnerable groups in the communities we serve.
Objectives
- Mitigate the risk of nutritional deterioration and mortality within vulnerable populations and high-risk groups.
- Counter undernutrition in areas classified as IPC 3 and above on the food security scale.
- Establish a platform for comprehensive nutrition education and counseling.
Key Components and Recipients
- Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (LNS): Targeted towards children (6-59 Months) facing acute malnutrition, LNS is a specialized nutritional product provided by WFP. Rich in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids, LNS supports proper growth and development in children.
- Super Cereal Supplements: Enriched with vital nutrients, super cereal is a fortified blended food distributed to pregnant and lactating women (PLWs). This versatile resource contributes to the nutritional well-being of women during crucial periods, supporting their health and that of their infants.
